How To Draw // my female face
\\ simply the basics

Well, this is just a rundown on how I draw my female characters' faces.

The drawing technique I use is nothing new and has been covered by a very good tutorial found on Polykarbon.com. I suggest familiarizing yourself with the basics of measuring the female face, read his tutorial here.

If you want to continue on, then lets.

I start with simply drawing a basic oval shape. This oval shape is the top of the head, and I try to draw it in the shape of how a human skull is basically formed. The head is also meant to be drawn in a 3/4 angle so the shape dictates that angle from the start.

I add in three distinct lines that will be my guide into the whole structure of the outer lines of the face.

  • A curved line that goes vertically down indicates the center of the face where the nose will be placed.
  • A v-shaped curve to indicate the chin.
  • a small vertical line to indicate where the jaw line will meet the ear.

Dong these simple lines helps me visualize the overall shape of the face immediately, and I can adjust these lines accordingly if in case the proportions aren't visually right.

Now this technique may need a little getting used to. I suggest that you get yourself familiarized wuth the basics of measuring a human face thoroughly so that your eyes can be used to 'seeing' the proportion even without the basic lines.

You'll know that you've arrived at this level if you can see the proportions without even thinking about it. It'll all be memory.
